Update #3 - Apr. 30th 2025:

Hello!

SpoiledPuppy here with another monthly update.

SLIGHT SPOILERS: If you haven't finished playing the prototype, you may want to do that first. If you're struggling, this may help a teeny bit!

I can't believe April has already come and gone. I feel like I haven't accomplished much, but at the same time, I've been working hard on updating the look of "Oh Well". My game plan for this month was to take the first screen that you start in (the Graveyard) and completely redo the pixel art with what I had been practicing in March.

Here is what I started with:

And here is what I've come up with:

As you can see, it is QUITE a change! At least to me. I am particularly proud of my little treehouse! I developed a color palette using a screenshot of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. I think it looks a tad washed out, or dull, but that's kinda what I'm going for. I haven't really used any of my purples a whole lot yet, so hopefully we'll see the MM inspo there soon.

Something about this all still seems a little bare...but its much more lively than before. I think I'd like the blank, green grass tiles to look more alive, but this is an NES style game, so I guess that may do for now.

This took all month, but, a lot of these tiles can be reused for the rest of the overworld map. The interiors and the dungeon are what's going to take a while. I think I may need to push Asset Creation/Update into June. I originally intended to be done in May, but I don't think I will be able to keep up with that.

The current plan is to continue remaking each screen until I'm done with the visual update. It is quite tedious, but its really helping me think about ALL of the tiles I'll need. So hopefully I'll have everything in one file once I'm ready to bring the tiles into the project. Right now, I have an individual file for almost each one! XD

That's all for now! I hope you have been having a great month and that life is treating you well. Look for another update towards the end of May, hopefully I'll have more to show. Also, please share this with fellow gamers! I appreciate any support you can give me there!

Until next time.
